Negros Occidental Partners with Korean AI Firm to Enhance Dairy Production Efficiency

BACOLOD CITY – The Negros Occidental provincial government has embarked on a groundbreaking partnership with Korea-based software engineering and service firm, ThinkforBL, to conduct a research and demonstration trial on dairy production using the innovative Milk-T Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology. The four-month trial, scheduled to commence at the Provincial Livestock Breeding Center and Dairy Farm (PLBCDF) in Barangay La Granja, La Carlota City, seeks to ascertain the adaptability of AI technology to Philippine farming conditions and management practices in dairy production. Additionally, the trial aims to assess the dairy farm’s production efficiency and identify areas where improvements can be made by utilizing Milk-T AI technology.

The official memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and ThinkforBL’s Chief Executive Officer Ji Hwan Park on Monday at the Provincial Capitol. Provincial Veterinarian Placeda Lemana and In Hwan Shin, regional president of Bacolod of the United Korean Community Association in the Philippines, attended the ceremony.

In the MOA, both parties recognize the significance of digital technology, particularly AI, in enhancing productivity and competitiveness in the dairy production sector. They are optimistic about the mutual benefits that will arise from the results of this trial.

Furthermore, the province and ThinkforBL will jointly own the data collected and the trial’s outcomes. The partnership represents a significant step towards leveraging advanced technology to meet the region’s growing demand for dairy products and enhance the PLBCDF’s efficiency.

Established in 2001, the PLBCDF plays a pivotal role in addressing Negrenses’ nutritional and economic needs. As the demand for dairy products grows, the province is committed to improving milk production efficiency by adopting modern and advanced scientific dairying technologies.

As part of the trial, ThinkforBL will establish a demonstration and communication environment at the dairy farm, including internet access required for sensors and camera systems to collect data. A data acquisition strategy will be formulated to gather information on individual dairy cows using sensors equipped with cameras. The collected data will be regularly analyzed, and the research trial’s findings and recommendations will be shared with the province.

The provincial government, in return, will facilitate the use of cows in the milking line for the demonstration trial and provide personnel support for the trial’s preparation, execution, and data collection.

The National Dairy Authority recognized the PLBCDF in 2019 as one of the outstanding dairy farms in the Philippines, bestowing it the prestigious Gawad Dairy Award. This recognition highlights the farm’s commitment to adhering to the Food Safety Act to ensure the production of safe and high-quality milk.

The partnership between Negros Occidental and ThinkforBL underscores the province’s dedication to modernizing its dairy industry and meeting the rising demand for dairy products while ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality. The utilization of Milk-T AI technology promises to revolutionize dairy production in the region, potentially setting the stage for more efficient and sustainable practices. This collaboration holds great promise for Negrenses and the broader agricultural sector in the Philippines and beyond, as AI-driven technology increasingly plays a vital role in shaping the future of farming and food production.
